Christmas Challenge (with sketches) #8

Well we're up to challenge #8 at CCWS and those boxes should be filling up nicely if you're playing along with us. This week it was Linda's turn to draw the sketch and we are being sponsored by Alles om te scrappen.

I've used this gorgeous free digi by Susan Brown and coloured it with Twinkling H2O's, very hard to get a photo showing the twinkle though. The backing paper and ribbon are from Papermania. I've also used a Martha Stewart snowflake PATP, a snowflake punch and a sentiment from my stash.

Please pop over to CCWS to see the sketch for yourself and the gorgeous creations the rest of the Design Team have made.

Take 3 of take 3

Spent most of yesterday back home at the local agricultural show with my sis and her family, luckily the rain managed to stay away for the day so although it was none too warm at least we were dry.
Another one for the Less is More take 3 challenge this week - somehow I've managed to make three romantic cards this week - not sure how that happened!

I've used a free sentiment from The Sherlock Holmes, cut it with a heart nestie and layered onto a scalloped heart and added a rose from my stash. My take three are Week 2 - flower or tree, Week 9 - touch of red and Week 10 sentiment only.

Challenges entered:
Less is More - take 3
Little Claires - wedding /anniversary
Cuddly Buddly - say something nice
Stamp n Doodle - Anniversary, Congrats or Wedding
Deep Ocean Challenges - hearts

Dancer

Getting in by the skin of my teeth to the progressive challenge over at CDAC, it didn't help when I discovered last night I'd coloured the wrong image! Never mind we got there in the end. I've used this beautiful dancer image from Whoopsiedaisie and coloured her with promarkers. Backing paper is from Wild Rose Studio and pink card is from Papermania and has been punched with a Martha Stewart edger. Card is finished with pearls, gems, a paper rose and a pretty pink ribbon tied in a bow.

Challenges entered:
Pretty Little Ribbon - use pretty ribbon

Christmas Card Club Mistletoe

Well we've had a miserable sort of day today so I spent the afternoon on the craft room. It was Sylvie's turn to choose the topic this time at the Christmas Card Club (see my side bar for links to the other girls) and she wanted to see mistletoe, here is my card:

You definitely wouldn't want to find yourself alone in the copier room with this guy lol!! It's actually one of the  gift tags I got from Costco the other day. Backing papers are from Papermania, card candy is coloured with promarkers to match, everything else from my stash.
Margaret has set the next  topic and she'd like to see white on white with some glitter, if you'd like to join us just contact one of us and we'll give you the low down.
Top tip - don't throw out your gift tags on the big day, they make fab toppers for quick and easy Christmas cards.

Take 3 - take 2

If you see what I mean lol.

Thought you might like to see a set of my new drawers

I caught hubby purloining them earlier to use as a filing cabinet, my did he get an ear bashing - then he tried the "if you loved me" line - no dear that one won't work either, if you want some buy your bl**dy own!!!

Five second warning.................all those with an acetate phobia please turn away now!!

Discovered eldest is off to a wedding do tonight and guess who gave away her wedding card stock yesterday............that would be me lol.
Using my favourite wedding stamp from Heart Art Studios I've stamped onto acetate with versamark and heat embossed with silver detail embossing powder, this has been layered onto white pearlised card and secured with red eyelets then layered onto red and silver mirri card. Base card is about 8 x 8 square, I've layered up silver mirri and more white pearl card and embossed a spellbinders heart top right, tied a white ribbon around, added a charm and some pearls.
I really wanted something red to pop the bow but couldn't find anything.........then I had a bright light moment and decided to colour the heart on this charm with a promarker....et voila!

This one covers:
Week 9 - a touch of red
Week 11 - acetate
Week 12 - off centre
Week 15 embossing
Week 25 ribbon

Challenges entered:
Less is More - take 3
Shopping our Stash - red, roses, ribbon (think you'll find all 3)
Fresh Brewed - emboss it
Aud Sentiments - anything goes
Lia Stampz - add a charm

Take 3

Good morning everyone. It's a bit gloomy here but at least it's not raining. Need to get down to some housework today as I spent yesterday afternoon meeting a crafty friend so I'm a bit behind this week.

Those lovely ladies over at Less is More would like us to take three of their previous challenges and use them on one card - I think this card I made a while ago fits the bill:

Image is from Bugaboo and is printed direct to card and coloured with promarkers then I've added a ribbon rose. Challenges covered include:
Week 9 - a touch of red
Week 17 pick a square
Week 18 - monochrome
Week 19 - in the frame
It's even a one layer card.

Challenges entered:
Shopping our Stash - red, roses or ribbon (managed all 3)

Hope everyone enjoys the Bank Holiday - although it's not actually one here in Scotland!

Faux Postage

Well I spent a wonderful afternoon with the lovely Kym, her hubby Paul, son Stephen and friend Marjorie today. We met at a farm shop/cafe and partook of some lovely tea and cakes and managed to chat for about three hours - I thought they were going to add rent to the bill lol.

I managed to make this when I got home:

I won this postcard stamp from Crafty Sentiments recently and inked it up for the first time today then used TH tea dye distress ink to age it. The decoupage is from Paper Nation and the map of the world BP is from Costco both have been in my stash for an age. Card is finished with some crochet wool tied at the bottom which I inherited from my Nana. So a great mix of old and new here.

Challenges entered:
Rainbow Lady - faux postage
Glitter Geeks - all around the world
Just add Ink - something from your stash
The Poodles Parlour - anything goes
The Stamp Man - travel
The Paper Variety - travel/transportation
Cards for Men - anything goes

Crafty Ann's #48 It'll be all white on the night!

OMG I really struggle with WOW cards so this was a challenge - we want to see white cards with the only colour being on the main image this time over at Crafty Ann's. This is what I came up with:

I've started with a white DL card and tied a white satin ribbon round into a bow. The scalloped nestie is mounted on foam pads. I've printed out the Christmas Garland image from Crafty Ann's digi store and coloured it with promarkers and matted it onto the nestie, I've then layered up the image to give dimension. Card is finished with some snowflakes, gems and a button.

Do pop over to CACB to see my team mates endeavours with WOW, you won't be disappointed.

Challenges entered:
Ribbon Girl - anything goes
CHNC - anything goes
Aud Sentiments - anything goes
Passion for Promarkers - no patterned papers
Divas by Design - Christmas in August
Crafty Sentiments - ribbons and bows

Snippets

Spent my evening making inserts and bagging cards to give to a blogging friend and DT colleague who, all being well, I'm going to meet tomorrow for the first time. Kym  is holidaying about 25 miles from where I live so we've arranged to meet for a blether and a cuppa tomorrow afternoon - we could be some time lol.
Made this one earlier:

Everything except the base card, flowers, leaves, buttons and pearls came out of my bit box. I printed the image (freebie from Whoopsi Daisy) months ago and I've coloured her with promarkers. Daisy backing paper is from Popcorn CD and the other is from DCWV Linen Closet stack.

Challenges entered:
I Love Promarkers - paper piercing ( either side of image)
Digi Doodle Shop - anything goes
Shelley's Image Blog - garden party
2 Cute Rubber Stamps - anything goes
Pixie Dust Studio - tag your it

Dragonflies

Hubby dragged me kicking and screaming to Costco yesterday afternoon..........bet he wishes he'd left me at home now lol They've got the first of their Christmas stock in so I picked up gift tags (not sure how many will end up on gifts though!), a huge pack of gorgeous tissue papers, two rolls of ribbon - one gold with holly on, the other blue with snowflakes - I managed to stop with two when I realised there was a whopping 50 yards on each reel! Then when we got to the final aisle they had some very sturdy metal trolleys with  7/8 drawers in - ideal for the craft room, so I got two...........and he paid for it all :)

Using a digital background and image from Stitchy Bears, layered onto a scalloped nestie square and finished with a stamped sentiment and some black gems. The dragonflies have been highlighted with a glaze pen.

Challenges entered:
Less is More - things that move
Cards for Men - anything goes
DYSU - boy/man
Hooked on Crafts - things with wings

Crafting for all Seasons #8 Bingo

Another two weeks flown by so it's time for a new challenge at CFAS and this time we're playing bingo, just choose any three elements in a straight line to use on your project and don't forget to tell us which line you used. We're being sponsored by The Stamping Boutique this time and half the DT are using their images, the rest of us are showcasing gorgeous free images from Sliejkes Stamps.

I've used image 85 "Girl with Teddy Bear" for my card and coloured it with promarkers then mounted it with foam pads. The gold metallic frame is filled with polished stone BP both from Crafty Ann's digi shop, the frame is from the brand new metallics range and as a special promotion throughout August and September it's buy one get one free. Backing paper is from Prima and the card is finished with a bow, stitched button (rescued from a sock belonging my DD), an embossed corner die cut, a tag and some pearls.

Flashback

Moving along with the Times want to see an old project that you are proud of this week. I have chosen this card:

It was made for a Colour Create Challenge at Crafty Ribbons. I loved the peach starry ribbon and knew I had to make a Christmas card with it. The image is a freebie from Inger Harding and it has been coloured with promarkers, the frame is another freebie digi from Sans Designs and again has been coloured with promarkers. the image has been matted onto a Cheery Lyn Designs die, a Marianne Design mat and copper mirri card. Card is finished with ribbon, pearls and snowflakes.
I love how the card turned out and think the soft peach colours work really well for a change at Christmas.

Nursery Rhymes

Well eldest arrived home from his road trip this afternoon, he wasn't away for as long as we expected but has enjoyed the experience. In four days they managed to fit in Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Eilean Donan Castle,  Loch Ness and then they climbed Ben Nevis yesterday. He's fallen in love with the Highland scenery the same as the rest of us have, and is planning another trip to the islands as soon as they can afford it.

On to cards - I put together the layout for this card in publisher last night and finished it off this afternoon.

The image and backing paper are from Joanna Sheen's Messy Rabbit CD and the tickets were done in publisher. Card is finished with some pearls and stickles.
Tip - use a graphics package to create your card layouts using digital images and backing papers. Saves on ink, paper and postage.

Something New

Good evening all, hope you've enjoyed your day and had lovely weather like we have. Unfortunately I had some dreaded housework to do so didn't get much time to get out and enjoy the sunshine.
Yesterday we had to go visit FIL and hubby suggested we eat at a farmshop enroute - I didn't need asking twice after all they have a craft department (guess hubby forgot this minor detail lol). Managed to treat myself to some new stamps (those girls at Bah! Humbug! made me do it), a distress ink pad and some glitter spray. Got one set of stamps out to play today and after seven failed attempts at stamping a decent image I stopped being frugal and mounted the set onto easy mount et voila I ended up with this:

Stamp is from Creative Expressions and has been stamped with onyx black versafine and embossed with clear embossing powder then mounted onto a black mat. Used black and white stardream to cut out the snowflake die, layered it up and mounted it onto a springy thing (so it moves) and attached to the gingham ribbon.

Coming from a family of male "Toon" supporters I don't think it'll be hard to choose a recipient for this card.

Challenges entered:
Bah! Humbug! - something new
Less is More - things that move (snowflake)
Winter Wonderland - cards for men/boys
Christmas Stampin - non traditional colours
CHNC - anything goes

Many thanks for all the lovely comments you leave, I do read and appreciate them all.

Tatty Ted

It has poured down most of today, managed to get out to buy stamps and post some cards between the downpours but that's about all! My wee man (aka 21 yr old son) left this evening to go on a road trip up to the north of Scotland with one of his friends - Loch Ness will need a new attraction after he's visited as he's enough to scare any monster away lol. Do hope the weather improves for them else they could be mighty soggy within a few days.
It's been ages since I made a frilly frooey card so I set to this evening  and this is the result:

I bought this Tatty Ted a wee while ago and this is the first time he's been inked, I've stamped him onto a Marianne Design die cut which I bought last week in Louth and inked around the edges with the blue ink used for his nose. Backing papers are also Tatty Ted and the blue strip is a Martha Stewart punch. Card is finished with lace, bows, buttons, ribbon rose buds and roses.

Getting Inky

Our kids returned to school today so typically the weather was gorgeous so hubby and I went for a three and a half hour walk with the dog, we ended up at the beach.......the sun was shining, there was a lovely warm breeze and miles and miles of empty golden sands.......we could have been anywhere in the world!
Tonight I got messy in the craft room - think I need a pair of overalls for doing this messy stuff, I'm covered in ink and everything I touch is covered too   - me no like this much mess lol
Anyway decided to have a play and created a couple more cards for the Less is More challenge.

I masked off the card and sponged with distress ink in tea dye and spun sugar then stamped the cute little owls (treated myself on holiday) and sentiment in versafine ink. The sentiment was due to go in the distressed box too but my tiny thank you stamp has disappeared off the face of the earth!

The rose was stamped in versafine then I re-stamped on waste paper and masked the card and stamped over the top with a Happy Birthday stamp using the spun sugar distress ink which was still lying on my desk. In hindsight I should have used something else much stronger but hey this was my first attempt :) I then used promarkers to highlight the rose petals and leaves.

DT Calls

Crafting When We Can and Crafty Ribbons challenge are two fantastic new challenge blogs that will be launching hopefully the beginning of September 2011. They will both be fortnightly/bi-weekly challenge blogs and right now they are both running DT calls. I've decided to try my luck. Now I have to choose 3 - 5 of my
best/favourite projects to show, here goes:

Not an easy task but I've chosen five (some with ribbon some without) which showcase colouring with promarkers, use of rubber and digi stamps, digital skills and range from clean and simple to fussy and fancy. To see more details on any card click on it to be taken to the original post.

Christmas Challenge (with sketches) #7

Where are the weeks going to this year - our kids return to school today and it only seems five minutes since they broke up!! Any way it's time for another challenge over at CCWS and this time it was Janneke's turn to make the sketch and we're being sponsored by Crealies. Here is my card:

Using this gorgeous image from Just Inklined which I've coloured with promarkers then used up some leftover mix of white flowersoft and glitter to highlight the snow. The backing papers are from my bit box and I think they're from Joanna Sheen's Pam West CD. Lacy doiley is a Cheery Lyn die again found in my bit box. Finished with some raffia ribbon, sentiment and some pearls.

Do pop over to CCWS to see the sketch for yourself and find out how the rest of the Design Team have interpreted it. I do hope you can join us this challenge and get those Christmas cards made early.

Challenges entered:

Getting inky

Apologies for being awol  last week but we took a last minute break down to Lincolnshire and although I took some crafty bits with me they remained largely untouched for the week! So a belated thanks to everyone who left me birthday wishes the week before, I was very spoilt on the day - loads of cards, lovely pressies and a champagne afternoon tea at a posh hotel :)
This week at Less is More we have to produce a OLC using ink - I'm with Mandi on this one - I don't do messy and have never applied ink direct to a card before unless attached to a stamp! Here is my attempt:

I masked off the corner using the waste from a scalloped nestie cut out and used three ink pads from a Colour Box palette. Using stamps from Words with Honey I then stamped the dandelion, butterfly and sentiment in black versafine ink. I probably should have used smooth card for this but I do like the textured effect in real life.

Challenges entered:
Less is More - use ink
Challenge up your Life - no backing papers
Delightful Challenges - things with wings
Rainbow Lady - stamp it

Christmas Card Club

Just made it on time, had a last minute week in Lincolnshire then added an extra day to miss the Saturday traffic so just got home today. Stayed in a lovely newly converted haybarn near Market Rasen and would highly recommend the complex of cottages. It's been a very quiet week following up some family history, antique hunting and doing a spot of sightseeing (and craft shopping!). We've been fairly lucky with the weather too, very warm all week and only got wet once or twice.
Enough of holidays and over to cards, luckily this card was already made although it wasn't intended for Kerry's challenge of a robin, holly and optional postbox it does fit the bill.

Using a decoupage kit from C&C the card is finished with a tartan bow, some pearls and a peel off sentiment.
The club is just for fun and details of those involved are on my sidebar, do pop over and see the girls I'm sure they'll be delighted. If you fancy joining in get in touch, we make a card once a fortnight - no pressure and it's amazing how soon the box begins to fill.

Challenges entered:

Crafty Ann's #47 Scallops and/or fancy borders

It's challenge time again over at Crafty Ann's and this time we would like to see scallops and/or fancy borders on your creations so get those punches and scissors out. This is my card:

Base card is purple matt mirri card. I've used a large PATP on some pearlised white card for the mat. I've used a Venetian Mask from Crafty Ann's digi shop and I've digitally pieced it in Pixlr using a variety of backing papers from the mottled stone range also available from Crafty Ann's and finished off with promarkers. The mask has then been layered up for dimension and mounted onto a circular nestie (using mottled stone in lilac) and a scalloped nestie cut from mirri card. Simply finished with various sizes and colours of gemstones.

Do pop over to CACB and see what the rest of the team have to show you including Leesa (aka The Navy Wife) who joins us for the first time.
