Crafting for all Seasons #4 card 2

Yesterday we were given an extra image from 2 Cute Stamps to work with and this is what I came up with for the CFAS challenge which is red, white and blue:

The backdrop has been created digitally in Publisher and Gimp using papers and an image from Crafty Ann's. The main images are coloured with promarkers, the penguin has been printed a second time and layered up. Card is finished with some ribbon and a bow.

Many thanks for looking today and do please pop over to the rest of the Design Teams blogs to see what delights they have in store for you.

It's those pesky penguins again - heeding Chrissie's invaluable advice I've cleaned up the background and I have to agree she was right.

Ho Ho Ho

I've had a relaxing afternoon in the craft room, had a play with my surprise buttons and ribbons and finished my projects to send back to Crafty Ribbons. Going to do some DT projects tonight to get ahead as we're off up north next Friday for a weeks holiday, I only booked it yesterday and haven't told anyone else where we're going yet!

Another Christmas card today:

Following the lovely sketch at Less is More, the card has been designed in Publisher and printed direct to card, I printed the Ho Ho Ho's twice and layered them up. Backing paper is from Bearly Mine. H's are from alphabet hats and sentiment is Santa's Sleigh font. Card is finished with some pearls. I've also made a little tag to co-ordinate.

Challenges entered:
Less is More - sketch
(Chrissie, on reflection you're right about the papers on my other cards!)
Jingle Belles - anything goes plus a tag
Crafty Sentiments - monochromatic
Fabs big Christmas - sentiment

Two of a kind

I was going to say Good Morning but looking at the clock I can see it's well into the afternoon lol.

Lady and Diva Lim have given us a sketch to work with this week and as I had this Penny Black stamp sitting on my desk ready to use I thought it was ideal to cut up to follow the sketch.

The topper really doesn't look straight in the photo but I went back and measured just to check it was irl - and it is! Penguins are coloured with promarkers and a gel pen and highlighted with a gelly roll pen. Backing paper is from a DCWV adhesive stack, matted on gold textured mirri card. Card is finished with a ribbon saved from a cracker and a peel off sentiment.

Challenges entered:
Less is More - sketch
Bah! Humbug! - penguins

Now where does the Two of a Kind come in I hear you ask - well I did it all again in pink!

Christmas

A quick one I made last night - I've spent all week wondering how to use fabric on a card when I remembered I had some of these fabric toppers tucked away in a box. So a very simple card using corrugated card, backing paper from my stash, a tag from Crafty Ann and some pearls.

Challenges entered:
CHNC - anything goes
Fabs Big Christmas - sentiment

Surprise package

Got these in the post this morning from Crafty Ribbons after entering their challenge #24 Colour Create on Sunday.

They were offering packs of ribbons and buttons in different colours to the first 15 people to email them, you got to choose which colour you wanted - I chose peach. I didn't know I'd been successful until the postie arrived this morning! I now have to send them a couple of projects (or more) using the ribbons and buttons, so I had a couple of hours in the craft room tonight and made an ATC and a Christmas card but you'll have to wait to see them lol.

Think it's time for bed now - see you all tomorrow!

ATC's

Had some fun today designing these ATC's. I don't make them very often but do use them in my Sheenie Angel Envelopes ( a swap on the Joanna Sheen Forum). I had downloaded this Floral Caps Noveau font after seeing it used on a monogram card at Less is More. I messed around in Gimp and Publisher until I was happy. The backgrounds are all from Crafty Ann's digi shop.

Challenges entered:
Divas by Design - not a card
Craft your days Away - monochrome (the S, T and bottom right are all monochromatic)

Wedding Anniversary

As some folks who've known me in the crafting world for a while will testify I'm a devil for re-giving cards to hubby and the kids (ie taking them out of the keepsake box, putting them in a fresh envelope and giving them again - sometimes more than once!). My excuses have been one - not enough hours in the day and two - I knew they wouldn't even notice.........and they didn't. Last year however I was nearly caught out with our Wedding Anniversary - we were in the middle of selling the family business and I was working 24/7 on due diligence. Anniversary day dawned and I had an early meeting with one of the Directors of the prospective buyers, I laughingly " fessed" up to what I'd done and the meeting progressed. Late morning hubby stuck his head around the door and made some comment about being married for 21 years and I retorted that it was 22 - well it said 21 on the card was his reply!! Bless him......he thinks I made a typo lol.
Anyway this year I'm well prepared (anniversary isn't until September) here is my card:

The hearts image and embossed paper are from Crafty Ann's Digi shop. Font used is Special Type. Letters and numbers have been typed in Word and saved as a PDF which I then opened in Gimp and cut out each one individually and saved them as transparent png files. Once these files are opened in Publisher they can be manipulated any which way you like.
The topper is printed onto ivory pearlised paper and matted onto a scalloped nestie. As the ivory stardream wouldn't go through the printer I used a peel off sentiment. Card is finished with some peel off flowers and pearls.
Note the number on the front of the card.......so I can't make the same mistake twice lol.

Challenges entered:
Less is More - monograms

I've thoroughly enjoyed doing the cards for this weeks challenge - I've mastered a few new tricks on the computer and got a few ideas up my sleeve for those wedding invites (although I'm sure the bride and groom will have a few of their own). I never thought I'd ever feel comfortable with CAS much less OLC but now - although I'm still no expert at either - at least I don't shudder at the prospect of making them and like many other Limettes look forward to Saturday to see what Diva and Lady Lim have in store for us. So many thanks Chrissie and Mandi for opening up a whole new crafting world to me..........just hope I'm not eating my words on Saturday lol.

Wedding Invite

This is a prototype (mark 1) for my nephew and his fiancee - I think I volunteered to make their invites, luckily the wedding isn't until 2013. Done in publisher using Edwardian Script font. Finished with a bow and some gems. It started life with a bow top left but decided I didn't like it on the photo. Since making this I've been messing around with fonts, gimp and publisher and worked out how to intertwine the letters but won't make any more samples atm.

Monogram

Over in Limetteland this week we are being asked to do a monogram, this is my first attempt:

Hope I've interpreted this correctly! Put together in Publisher I've used a backing paper, frame and snowflake from a Christmas from around the world free download. The "C" is in Dutch and Harley font. The sentiment is printed direct to card in Santa's Sleigh font. Snowflake is highlighted with a gelly roll pen and I've used a gold gel pen to outline the "C".

Many thanks to all the Limettes for their lovely comments on last weeks creations and the help regarding the "Joy" stamp - I'm going to mount it on eazi mount to see if that helps.

Less is More - monogram

LIM

Found this stamp in my collection and thought it would be perfect for this weeks challenge but try as I may I just don't seem to be able to stamp a decent image with it. I wonder if any of you lovely ladies have any tips or advice which might help.
This was my first attempt to see what the stamp looked like - I felt the JOY didn't really stand out so tried again with versamark and embossing powders but didn't like the result. Then I tried two colours but the stamp is too detailed to accurately colour in by hand (or do I just need more practise?)
The last one is plum archival ink which seemed the best of a bad bunch so I went with it.
Unfortunately the stamp didn't print too clearly this time although I was rather chuffed to get "to the world" positioned both straight and where I wanted it.
Question is there a specific technique these stamps are made for?
Do I need different ink?
Is the stamp at fault?
Or is this as good as it gets?

All suggestions gratefully received.

Challenge I'd like to enter:
Less is More - olc framed

Proud Mum Moment

Just spent the evening at an awards ceremony at college where my younger son was awarded Student of the Year for Social Sciences. He was one of only 20 students out of the 8000 in the college to win an award and all his tutors had unanimously agreed he should be put forward.

So one proud Mum tonight and one chuffed young man.

Beginning to enjoy doing these clean and simple cards and am building a nice stack of them to send to charity - which reminds me of why I was standing on the high street this morning wondering where I was going............wanted some small labels from the print shop........oh heck I'll have to go again now!!
(Note to Chrissie - the skateboarder card is for my daughter to give her big brother so no I wasn't having a moment (this time)..........but it happens frequently lol)

21st Birthday

Over in Limette - land this week we've been asked for a one layer card and to use a frame - great thought I as I'd just downloaded a freebie digi frame, ideal to use. Whilst looking for an image to fill the frame I came across this little skate boy and remembered I still needed another birthday card for no 1 son whose 21st it'll be on Wednesday so thought I'd better make it first. This is how it turned out:

The image is a freebie from Sliekjes Stamps and has been coloured with promarkers. The sentiment has been done in Publisher using wordart and I've left it uncoloured to try to keep the card clean and simple (hope this counts as a frame!).

Challenges entered:
Less is More - olc in the frame

Saturday Challenge - male card
Little Claires - cards for men

Busy few days

It's been all go here since I got back from York. Last night we had my eldest sons 21st birthday party and today it's my younger sons 19th birthday. We hired a beach hut locally for 24 hours for the party (midday yesterday until midday today). We woke to pouring rain yesterday and it didn't let up until the early hours of this morning - but my son wasn't going to let that put a damper on the occasion. We put up a marquee to house them all and used a couple of generators for light and power. He had a disco and three live bands playing. Although we weren't invited we had to keep popping back to ensure they were behaving so I was in and out all evening.

Luckily it was dry this morning when we got back to clean up and take the marquee down - I think a good night was had by all counting all the empties we had to cart to the recycling bank.

This is the beach hut and the view of Bass Rock (and the Fife coastline on a good day) from the windows.

We're having some of his closer friends round and possibly some family on Wednesday (his actual birthday) for lunch and going out to Chez Roux (one of Albert Roux's restaurants) for dinner at night so it's off to the hairdressers in the morning and then I'd better think of doing some food shopping or it'll be beans on toast for lunch on Wednesday. I'd better go and finish off his cards too!

Mystical Creature

I see blogger is still acting up - my followers have all gone walk-about again! I've downloaded google chrome and so far (touch wood) I've not had any problems with it.
Here's another card I made before my few days away.

I wasn't too sure about it so left it sitting. I bought the stamp earlier this year in preparation for my DD's birthday in December (nowt like planning ahead in my books) and  decided to ink it up for some practise - think I need some more of that lol. Stamp is from The Stamp Barn and has been coloured with promarkers and highlighted with glitter pen. Card is finished with a sentiment and a gem.

Challenges entered:
Cup Cake - things with tails
Kaboodle Doodle - mystical creatures
Crafty Sentiments - add some sparkle

Embossing

I'm posting this from York, had a lovely afternoon visiting the Jorvik centre, Castle museum and Minster followed by tea at Betty's. Looks like a boat trip is on the cards for tomorrow.
Any way back to craft - I gave my craft room a quick tidy up last night and I'd almost forgotten I'd had a delivery from Joanna Sheen this week containing these Marianne Design embossing folder and butterfly dies - I just had to play with them before I went away. I've embossed on midnight blue pearlescent card which is layered onto a pale blue pearlescent card. Butterflies are made with the pale blue pearlescent card and I've added pearls to them. Sorry it's not the best photo, I've tried everything but the pale blue always shows up white.

Quite enjoying this monochromatic business, I really must spend some time sorting my stamps out to see what I actually have now that I have time to use them - I know I have several which haven't been inked up yet.

K is for kids/kraft

I've been struggling with this challenge for a few days - I don't have any kraft card thought I - I tried brown paper but it didn't work for me. The lightbulb went on this evening and I remembered my kraft ATCs and bingo I made a card!!
The lovely ladies over at Less is More are looking for monochrome this week - not something I necessarily have ever done by design although a few cards have materialised that way.
The stamp is from a very old QVC set and has been inked with cocoa memento and stamped onto a squared off ATC. This has been layered onto copper mirri card and a nestie square of pearlised card. Four buttons and a sentiment finish the card.

Challenges entered:
ABC Christmas - K is for kids/kraft
Less is More - monochromatic
Crafty Sentiments - neutral colours
Winter Wonderland - foods of Christmas
