Good morning all.
Can't believe it's April today, quarter of the year already gone! Hope you've all got your wits about you and don't fall foul of an April Fool...but if you do feel free to share and give us all a laugh lol!
Since it's the first of the month it's time for a new challenge over at Eclectic Ellapu, the challenge for the Pink Team was chosen by the lovely Becca and she wanted us to leave our comfort zone...eek!
We had lots of lovely entries last month so I hope we see you again this month.
I've done a canvas...I added lots of texture to the base - lace, tapestry plastic, various netted fabrics to name a few then filled in the gaps with grunge paste fluffed up with a fork. Once dry I coated everything with gesso. Meanwhile I went hunting for supplies - dress form die cut, buttons and fasteners, zipper end, pearls, brass charms and plates, wooden pieces, waste die cuts etc. I've chosen an old button hook for the centre piece...once used for buttoning up shoes and boots in the good old days I believe!
Once I had everything arranged to my satisfaction I glued everything in place with gel medium and coated everything with more gesso then left it overnight to dry thoroughly.
Now for the terrifying part...painting with distress sprays - would I end up with a beautifully coloured canvas or something resembling a muddy puddle! Thankfully I didn't get the latter!
I used the three new distress spray colours - cracked pistachio, abandoned coral and mermaid lagoon then added some Cosmic Shimmer in silver and gold. Once dry I used distress paints in silver, gold and bronze to add highlights to parts of the canvas and some of the textures.
I love how this turned out, sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horn and step out of your comfort zone and see what happens - this time I think I came out on top :)
Do pop over to the challenge blog and see how the rest of the pinks stepped outside their comfort zones, you won't be disappointed. If you're not ready to step out of your comfort zone yet the green team's challenge this month is "April Showers/Spring".
